Ages: 5-13 years
A teacher of 40+ years, Pam Fleck has been principal (headteacher) at Riverton Primary School in New Zealand for the past 15 years. She has taught at all levels and is passionate about making schools a positive environment where learning for everyone is the primary focus. Pam is currently leading an Extending High Standards Across Schools contract with eight other schools. In 2008, having won the Southland primary principals’ study award, she travelled to Europe and looked at the education system with a focus on how leadership is developed and fostered.
Paul Winders was associate principal at Riverton Primary School for 10 years after teaching elsewhere in New Zealand. A talented musician/songwriter, he toured with the Dunedin band the Verlaines and is about to release his first CD. He has a great passion for working with at risk students and developing positive relationships with students who exhibit very challenging behaviours, using peer groups, sport, physical and outdoor education. Paul is currently teaching at Arrowtown Primary School as the sports coordinator.
