While we occasionally engage educators to write on particular topics, we welcome voluntary submissions from practising educators who have clear credentials in teaching. We are always seeking ideas or completed manuscripts that will empower educators to teach to their full potential and inspire a lifelong love of learning.
The material our potential authors submit for publication is based on what has worked for them in the classroom – Essential Resources provides a platform for teachers to share their ideas.
If you would like to write for us, our assurance to you is that we will treat your proposal with respect. If we enter a publishing agreement with you, please be assured that we will work closely with you to develop your material into a high-quality, accessible classroom resource.
Each year we produce a variety resources across the curriculum. We currently have over 1000 innovative titles, each of which has been:
Our publications include student workbooks, teaching resources, and some that are a mixture of both. The purchase of our resources grants photocopy rights to the purchasing school, however, depending on the type of resource, some customers prefer to purchase multiple copies and use them for students to write in directly.
Our current list of publications gives some indication of the areas in which we are prepared to publish. At the same time, we are open to suggestions that fall outside our current range. While a large proportion of our sales are within the New Zealand and Australian markets, we have extensive reach in the wider world market.
When you submit a publication proposal or manuscript to us, we take it through several stages, including asking other educators to review it to ensure it has broad and relevant application for classroom teaching and learning. When we are convinced that your material is appropriate, we will negotiate a publishing contract with you and offer guidelines for presenting a copy for publication.
Our publishing team includes experienced editors and designers who will provide you with the support necessary to bring your material to a quality publication standard. Once your resource is published and on the market, you will receive royalty payments twice yearly, based on sales figures.
We suggest you download the following pdf file to guide your submission: Developing a Resource Proposal.
You can contact Essential Resources by post, phone, fax or email. We will be happy to provide guidelines for a publication proposal or to answer any other queries you may have.
