As the name suggests, visual arts are those that place prime importance on vision, what we can see. In other arts, such as dance, drama and music, there can be elements that are visual, but they also involve sound and movement. Visual arts include drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, textile arts and sculpture. The products of all these arts are primarily appreciated by what we can see. Visual arts in the primary school classroom focuses largely on production, making art works to look at and share.
Essential Resources offers several series of books that support visual arts teaching and learning. These include Art with Anything, Recycling through the Seasons and the Visual Arts and Music title from the Learning Journeys with ICT series.
